OUR VISION

The COVID-19 pandemic reminded the world just how interconnected we are, the collective risks we share, and the critical role public health can play in advancing the public good. The internet shares a very similar set of shared risks, but our capacity to understand and mitigate them remains in the Dark Ages.

The practice of cybersecurity today is often more art than science. Despite decades of research, investment, innovation, and diligent work, cybersecurity professionals don’t have access to the kind of comprehensive data or methodologies necessary to study collective risk at any meaningful scale. We are unable to assess the effectiveness of mitigation efforts, identify the wider determinants of cyber security risk, or predict future outcomes. Medicine struggled with similar challenges until the advent of epidemiology and public health sciences sparked new interest in the collection and aggregation of health-related data, paving the way for a more scientifically rigorous approach.

To meet the evolving risks of tomorrow, we need a science of Cyber Public Health and institutions to leverage it. Science starts with data, so our top priority is gathering a more comprehensive set of data and standardizing it for researchers. A society-level view of risks will revolutionize every aspect of cybersecurity, including reducing systemic risks, addressing existing inequities, and making the internet more secure and resilient for all.

CyberGreen is dedicated to mobilizing a global community of experts, business leaders, and policymakers to revolutionize cybersecurity by establishing and advancing the science of Cyber Public Health.

WHAT WE DO

BUILDING A MOVEMENT

CyberGreen is building a movement of like-minded experts, business leaders, and policymakers to establish a science of Cyber Public Health. Together we will help identify the data, institutions, and policies necessary to bring this science to bear on the global risks facing the internet.

ADVOCACY

CyberGreen works with policymakers, regulators, and standards bodies to advocate for policies that expand the collection of relevant data and advance the science and practice of Cyber Public Health.

DATA & METRICS

CyberGreen collects data and collaborates with partners around the world to create a comprehensive framework to assess our shared global cyber risk using metrics and scoring.

RESEARCH

CyberGreen is conducting and supporting research projects to identify the core challenges and paths forward for establishing a science of Cyber Public Health.

DAN GEER
“From the study of communicable and environmental diseases have come an important fraction of humankind’s greatest achievements, both with respect to longevity and the alleviation of suffering.  Common good at that level only follows common effort. That there will always be freeloaders and non-participants is a side effect of liberty, and so be it.  In the meantime, doing what one can to rescue the few by rescuing the many is what I hope CyberGreen becomes.  Join us if you are able.”
ADAM SHOSTACK
“I’m excited to be working with CyberGreen to establish a science of Cyber Public Health and to bring different perspectives to critical cybersecurity issues. It’s an important endeavor and one that I hope gains traction with all relevant stakeholders.”
DR. RICHARD SOLEY
"CyberGreen is focused on the big picture for cybersecurity. Developing a science of Cyber Public Health requires a coalition of the willing to provide repeatable quantification and embrace a feedback loop. Please join us."
PAUL TWOMEY
“Our globally interconnected networks create structural risks for which we all bear the burden, yet we continue to treat cybersecurity as the internal responsibility of companies and governments. I am excited about the potential of a science of Cyber Public Health to expand our understanding of the externalities created by every misconfigured internet service and start treating cybersecurity as a public good.”
JUN MURAI
“CyberGreen’s work has the potential to create a truly scientific foundation for our knowledge of cybersecurity, much like pioneering climate modelers and Nobel laureates Syukuro Manabe and Klaus Hasselman did for climate science.”
